Ethnic group of individuals both men and women with yoga mats in hand. The group seems to be in conversation as they laugh and smile.

Ever thought of adding some easy yoga poses to your Thanksgiving menu?

Along with turkey and pie, gratitude is vital to Thanksgiving. Yoga evokes feelings of gratitude by leading us to focus on ourselves and the present. As such, yoga can bring us closer to the holiday’s spirit. So, what is it about yoga that makes us feel extra-thankful?

Yoga Deepens Our Gratitude

Gratitude goes beyond feeling thankful. More so, it is a deep sense of appreciation for kindness and the willingness to return it. In other words, gratitude is an emotional openness to positive forces.

So, what are some easy yoga poses to cultivate gratitude?

Yoga Poses to Foster Gratitude

Here are some easy poses that can make any yogi feel grateful:

Mountain Pose

This is a simple, yet powerful pose. To do it, stand with your feet parallel and a few inches apart. You can also touch your big toes with your heels apart if you prefer. Lift your toes and spread them wide, then return them to the floor. Your weight should be evenly balanced through each foot. Squeeze your thighs, keeping your legs straight. Next, inhale and lift from your waist, pressing your head up while looking straight ahead. Your spine should be long and straight. Roll your shoulders up and back with arms to the side. Hold for a few breaths, then release.

When you do this pose, you’ll feel as if you are opening your heart to the world!

Standing Forward Fold

You can flow from the mountain pose right into this one. Slightly bend your knees and fold your torso down over your legs. Make sure you engage your hips rather than your back. Next, place your hands either beside each foot or on the floor in front of you. Inhale and extend your chest. Then, exhale and straighten your legs. As you do this, lift your knees, and gently turn your inner thighs back. Make sure you keep your neck relaxed. On each exhale, fold deeper into the pose.

Blood will rush to your brain, bringing clarity. Further, you can feel your worries roll off your back. You’ll be left with gratitude for all the bright spots.

Child’s Pose

Start with your hands and knees on the mat. Next, spread your knees to the edge of your mat. Meanwhile, keep the tops of your feet on the floor. Your big toes should touch. Then, rest your stomach between your thighs and bring your forehead to the floor. You can also rest your head on a block. Stretch your arms in front of you with palms to the floor. This is a great pose to hang out in, so there’s no rush to leave. Stay in it for as long as you’d like.

In child’s pose, you bring yourself to the earth. As a result, you feel as if you are showing nature your gratitude. You can also easily focus on your breath in this pose. Each breath reminds us to be grateful to be alive.
